We won! Scran on the Tyne at the NE Blogger Awards

This is a slightly delayed reaction thanks to some pesky hackers attacking the Scran on the Tyne website (tsk!), but we think it’s important to get such a momentous occasion documented on the website for future visitors and to thank you all for your support with the site thus far. So yes, you may be aware, we recently won the ‘Best Food Blog’ accolade at the North East Blogger Awards! Quite the surprise, considering we were up against the amazing The Grazer and Wholeheartedly Healthy – clearly a very strong category, and one which we were delighted to even be shortlisted in! The entire shortlist celebrated the amazing blogger talent we have in the region and it was wonderful for us to have our very own celebratory event, all about us!

The awards, held at one of our favourite North-east venues, Lane7, was a glitzy affair featuring a guest list filled with local business movers and shakers and an array of bloggers across various categories. With complimentary beverages courtesy of Fentimans and The Lakes Distillery, the night was off to a bang, and the complimentary signature scran from the Lane7 kitchen was a welcome addition to the evening. There was also some gorgeous illuminated lights from Coco Luminaire (#BLOG, naturally!), music from The Glass House band and our very own Miss Archer on the decks.

The ‘Best Food Blog’ category was first to be announced, and after showing our shortlist video [in which editor Lauren reveals that it’s “always nice having something to flash” – ahem!] the drum roll began. It sounds a bit corny, but the announcement now feels like quite the blur, especially after we spent the evening telling everyone that The Grazer was going to win!

There were some fantastic winners on the night across the other categories (see the full list below) but for now, here’s a little thanks from us:

“Scran on the Tyne has had quite the whirlwind first year and this is the icing on the cake for us. I set the site up with the vision of creating a community-led platform that provides only honest evaluations of the amazing food and drink we have on the doorstep, with a quintessentially Geordie twist. I never imagined that I’d receive such a hugely positive response, never mind an award win after 12 months!

I wouldn’t have been able to achieve any of this without the help of my outstanding contributors who take time out to write and create for our readers, the local eateries and bars who’ve supported us with prize giveaways and exclusive content to help our social media growth, and our enthusiastic readers who’ve interacted and engaged with our output – they are a force to be reckoned with and the life-blood of the website. Thanks also to O PR who were the brains behind the NE Blogger Awards, the judges who favoured us, everyone who nominated us and the award sponsor, Primula.

The win has inspired me to create something even bigger, across various topics, so in 2015 we’ll be launching www.onthetyne.com, a parent website featuring Style, Local & Business News, Music & Events and of course, the original Scran too. I’ve recruited fantastic Editors for each section and now we’ll be seeking to find some of the region’s finest writing talent to get on board and help us create a fantastic North-east  resource that will constantly evolve and help to promote more local talented people, brands and businesses than ever before.

So cheers to all of you who’ve been involved so far, and to those of you yet to join us on the journey!”

– Lauren Archer, Founder & Editor at Scran on the Tyne.
